I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A residential burglary occurred on BROADWOOD AVENUE between 5pm and 7pm on 28th of February. The burglary was committed by an unknown number suspects who gained entry to the house by climbing the rear fence from Ruislip Woods and smashing the patio window, an untidy search took place, and jewellery, cash and perfumes were stolen.
Did you see or hear anything suspicious? You can let us know by ringing 101 and quoting crime reference 01/7234854/26. You can also provide information anonymously to CrimeStoppers on Freephone 0800 555 111.
Please ensure your front doors are locked and secure, if you have a UPVC front door, just closing the door is not secure, these doors must be double locked, please lift the handle and lock. If you're going out for a short time in the evening, set lights to come on before dark, and leave a TV on (or use a low power fake TV) to give the illusion someone is home.
Please consider installing CCTV, and/or a house alarm.
Specifically for Broadwood Avenue houses that back on to the woods, please consider installing taller fences with anti-climb paint, or plastic spikes or trellis on the top. Also consider installing CCTV to cover the rear of your property as all burglaries recently have been accessed from Ruislip Woods.
Contrary to popular belief, residents can have CCTV recording PUBLIC land, this includes the public path in Ruislip Woods that runs at the back of Broadwood Avenue, and also means you can record the road in front of your property.
Dog walkers - if you see anyone in the woods wearing face coverings or balaclavas acting suspiciously, make a note of how many suspects there are, and a brief description of what they're wearing, get yourself to safety, and call 999 straight away, as a crime is either about to take place, or already has. This gives us the best chance to catch the suspects.
On an unrelated note, there has been a significant rise is car theft in Ruislip recently, please consider installing a simple steering wheel lock on your vehicle. The current trend seems to be targeting BMWs, Mercedes, Alfa Romeos and other higher value vehicles. Steering wheel locks have been proven to prevent car theft, and cost significantly less than the increase in insurance premiums after a theft has occurred.

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
